Praterstern
Challenging and Energy-Efficient
The new headquarters of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG at Praterstern is a demanding project in terms of architecture and construction, featuring a spectacular membrane roof that aids in energy conservation. Approximately 1000 employees of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG work in the new office building located at Praterstern 3. Two parallel building structures were erected on the outskirts of Praterstern: one along the railway tracks and the other along Nordbahnstraße. These structures were connected by access and meeting room tracts to form a cohesive building ensemble. The new corporate headquarters consists of a basement level and eight upper floors.
Spectacular Membrane Roof
The inner courtyard serves as the centerpiece of the new headquarters and is protected by a transparent, 1000 square meter membrane roof. The foil cushion roof, like the rest of the building, was designed and executed by architects Tillner & Willinger based on a winning architectural competition. The structural planning for the foil cushion roof was developed in collaboration with Vasko+Partner and the company Vektor Foiltec. In addition to the general planning and architectural services provided by Tillner & Willinger, Vasko+Partner was responsible for comprehensive general consulting services, including supplementary planning tasks (e.g., tendering, cost management), on-site construction supervision, parts of project management, structural engineering, building services, and building physics. A semi-transparent facade allows for visual connections between the interior and exterior. The membrane roof also helps keep energy costs low.
