MedUni Campus Mariannengasse

The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse is being developed on the site of the former Wien Energie headquarters in Vienna's 9th district Alsergrund. It will provide space for 2,000 medical students and 750 staff of the Medical University of Vienna on an area of approximately 35,000 square metres. The new campus is located in close proximity to the existing locations of the MedUni Vienna and will consolidate the preclinical institutes of the latter in one place. The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse will be a combination of existing, historic buildings, which will be preserved and renovated, and a new development, designed by Delugan Meissl, which will be constructed along Spitalgasse and be some 70 metres long. The campus is expected to be completed in 2025.

The full design team is a consortium consisting of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects and Architektur Consult. Vasko+Partner has been entrusted with the construction site supervision.

Hans-Peter Weiss, former CEO of the federal real estate company BIG, which is the property owner and client, states, "With the MedUni Campus Mariannengasse, we are creating the spatial conditions for top-level medical research and teaching. The combination of old buildings and modern architecture creates a unique complex in the densely built urban area, providing optimal structural and atmospheric conditions for the doctors of tomorrow. At the same time, preserving and utilising the historical buildings saves resources and turns heritage conservation into a factor for climate protection. The spaces for the new campus are designed in a way that allows for their size and function to be modified if needed, enabling us to quickly respond to changes in university life."
