Aron Menczer Education Campus

The Aron Menczer Campus has been providing a new educational location for approximately 1,350 children from kindergarten to school, offering a variety of diverse open spaces, in the new urban development area of Aspanggründe-Eurogate in the third district of Vienna since the academic year 2021. Architect Martin Kohlbauer planned the building, and Vasko+Partner Ingenieure was responsible as the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) consultant and executor. The client was MA 34 on behalf of MA 56, MA 10, MA 13. Hypo Noe Leasing GmbH and Strabag Real Estate GmbH are the private partners.

The education campus stands out for its compactness, covering approximately 10,000 square meters of usable space. A terraced structure for sports and musical activities was envisioned along the Adolf-Blamauer-Gasse. In a flower-shaped main building, all educational areas are arranged around the central access point. The campus includes 43 educational rooms for the all-day elementary school, kindergarten, basal and therapeutic pedagogy groups, a music school, as well as a sports hall with two gymnastics rooms.

"The project has a distinctive architectural expression that establishes an identity for the urban development area. The appearance is characterized by oversized, landscaped terraces located in front of all educational and multifunctional spaces. The six-story campus stands out for its compactness and the resulting large contiguous green area," explains Martin Kohlbauer.

David Zalusinsky from Vasko+Partner describes the challenges of the project: "In addition to the technical and facility optimization of the building during the planning and implementation phases, creating an ideal environment for the children, especially considering the special educational focus on 'mobility impairment' of this education campus, was a significant goal."

Vienna currently has a total of six completed education campus locations (Monte Laa in Favoriten, Gertrude Fröhlich-Sandner in Leopoldstadt, Donaufeld in Floridsdorf, Sonnwendviertel in Favoriten, as well as the Seestadt Aspern and Friedrich Fexer Campuses in Donaustadt), with eight others currently under construction or in planning (Aspern Nord, Berresgasse, Nordbahnhof, Aron Menczer in Landstraße, Atzgersdorf, Landgutgasse, and Deutschordenstraße).

Moreover, another construction program for a total of nine additional education campus locations throughout Vienna is set to commence soon and is scheduled to run until 2034.
