The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse

The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse

The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse is being developed on the site of the former Wien Energie Central in Vienna's Alsergrund district. It will provide space for 2,000 medical students and 750 employees of the Medical University of Vienna on an area of approximately 35,000 square meters. The new campus is located in close proximity to the existing locations of the Medical University of Vienna and will consolidate its preclinical institutes in one place. The MedUni Campus Mariannengasse will consist of a combination of historically preserved and renovated existing buildings, along with a new building designed by Delugan Meissl, which will be constructed along Spitalgasse over approximately 70 meters. The campus is expected to be completed by 2025.

The general planner is a consortium consisting of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects and Architektur Consult. Vasko+Partner has been entrusted with the construction supervision.

Hans-Peter Weiss is the CEO of the Federal Real Estate Company, which is the property owner and builder of the campus. He states, "With the MedUni Campus Mariannengasse, we are creating the spatial conditions for top-level medical research and education. The combination of old buildings and modern architecture creates a unique ensemble in the densely built urban area, providing optimal structural and atmospheric conditions for the doctors of tomorrow. At the same time, preserving and utilizing the historical buildings conserves resources and turns heritage conservation into a factor for climate protection. The spaces for the new campus are designed in a way that allows for their size and function to be modified if needed, enabling us to quickly respond to changes in university life."
