City Port Vienna
Additional Features:
Due to the need to maintain ship operations during the main season and the opening of the bicycle and pedestrian path along the quay from late April to early September 2009, the construction works had to be divided into two phases.
Project Description:
The main objective was to create a suitable boarding point for the Twin City Liner, which would also serve as an access point for the quay areas and excursion shipping. Moreover, from the outset, it was the intention of the company to establish a "Gate to Bratislava" in connection with the Twin City Liner and operate it reciprocally for Vienna in Bratislava. The operation of the new Vienna - Bratislava ferry connection with a new ship landing station, as well as the creation of additional landing points for the DDSG Blue Danube between the Schwedenbrücke and Marienbrücke, offers the opportunity to enhance the attractiveness of this high-quality urban area in the center of Vienna.
Vasko+Partner was responsible for project consulting, management, and implementation, cost management, site supervision for construction, building services, and electrical systems, as well as project coordination.
The winning design by architects Fasch & Fuchs impresses with its "floating construction" and clear, organized concept. The design brings the first district (Bezirk) to the waterfront and establishes an urban connection between the quay and the waterfront. With its iconic architecture, the new ship station resembles a ship anchored to the quay wall. Its distinctive character creates a strong sense of identity and promises the emergence of a tourist attraction.
