EHF HEADQUARTERS
EHF – European Handball Federation Headquarters
The headquarters of the European Handball Federation (EHF) are located in the Neu Marx quarter in Vienna’s third district, in the immediate vicinity of the event location Marx Halle, the future event venue WH Arena, and the landmark office building T-Center. Contrasting its urban surroundings, there is a sport and green oasis (green "urban wild") right next to the site. The green which can be perceived from the offices draws nature into the building.
The office building is six storeys high and provides space for more than 120 employees. Apart from the workspaces, there are a 250-square-metre lecture hall, meeting rooms, a TV studio, and ample outdoor areas. The staircase in the centre of the building serves as a communication and meeting point and connects the split-level floors by means of large openings and sightlines.
The building’s distinctive exterior is characterised by a protruding metal framework. The fabric blinds integrated into it provide solar shading and allow for changes in the facade’s appearance thanks to their variability.
The "European Handball House", as the HQ are also referred to, uses solid reinforced concrete construction and comprehensive sustainable features such as planted terraces with pergolas consisting of photovoltaic elements on the roof areas of the fourth and fifth floors which provide both shading and energy generation.
A ground source heat pump has been installed for efficient heating and cooling. Activation of structural thermal mass for temperature control, low-emission building materials, and a ventilation system with heat recovery supply indoor comfort. The EHF headquarters have been awarded the klimaaktiv Gold certificate (957 out of 1000 points).
Right next to the EHF HQ, by the way, there is another building V+P has contributed to: the NMX student hostel, serviced apartments + RPHI office complex.
