Beuth University of applied siences - Berlin

Learning to Soar

The Beuth University of Applied Sciences is bursting at its main campus in Wedding and plans to relocate its site to the departure building at the former Berlin Tegel Airport. The planning for the reuse of the airport building is designed by agn architects, with Vasko+Partner on board as project management.

agn successfully secured the contract through the procurement procedure and was awarded the general planning contract for the first major BIM (Building Information Modeling) project of the Berlin Senate: the reuse of Terminal A at Berlin-Tegel.

The landscape architects Loidl are planning the open spaces around the main terminal, where Beuth University of Applied Sciences will be housed. Loidl refers to the project as "Urban Tech Republic," surrounded by forests, heath, and a lake.

Over the coming years, the area will transform into a research and industrial park for urban technologies: Berlin TXL - The Urban Tech Republic. The Urban Tech Republic will host up to 1,000 large and small companies with 20,000 employees, engaging in research, development, and production. Additionally, more than 2,500 students will move into the former terminal building, joining the prestigious Beuth University of Applied Sciences. The overall goal is to have around 5,000 students inhabit the Berlin TXL campus.

Berlin TXL's focus lies in sustaining the growing metropolises of the 21st century: efficient energy use, sustainable construction, eco-friendly mobility, recycling, interconnected system control, clean water, and the use of new materials. Berlin TXL - The Urban Tech Republic is currently a one-of-a-kind project in Europe, if not worldwide.
