Frauenbrücke
Project Description: This glass enclosure is an independent, transparent event and exhibition space that is inserted under the so-called "Frauenbrücke" (Women's Bridge) in the 7th district of Vienna.
The transparency of the bridge, extending to both sides of the "Gürtel" (a ring road), is emphasized by the absolute see-through nature of the all-glass construction.
Since there is a 4.43-meter wide passage on each side of the cube, pedestrians can continue to pass through the bridge unimpeded.
On the inner side facing the "Gürtel," a door with smooth operation (manually operated all-glass panels with emergency release) is installed.
The load-bearing elements in this construction consist of four glass frames, each composed of two vertical supports ("Schwerter") and a glass beam ("Glasunterzug") placed above them. The static connection of the glass frames, typically achieved with steel components, was realized for the first time here using glass components. Glass panes made of laminated safety glass were fixed in between. In the event of glass breakage, the glass pieces remain adhered to the embedded safety film within the pane. All connections were sealed with silicone.
The foundation plate, with an integrated, surrounding footing, also serves as the floor of the space. Its surface is smoothed and subsequently sealed.
To create the impression of the cube floating, it is illuminated from underneath on all sides.
This innovative project marks the first use of an all-glass construction without steel connecting elements.
