New geriatric center Liesing

In March 2009, construction work began on the new Liesing Nursing Home, with a gross floor area of approximately 32,000 square meters. In accordance with the nearby buildings, the construction class III (maximum height of 17.5 meters) must not be exceeded. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated in May 2011, and the project was completed in 2012. The architectural firm Kaufmann-RieplRiepl won the EU-wide competition for the new Geriatric Center Liesing. Vasko+Partner is responsible for project management as a subcontractor of Arwag, as well as structural engineering and building physics. Habau and Alpine are the main contractors for the construction and finishing works. The architectural concept includes a golden gleaming facade that appears multi-layered, permeable, and delicate due to the projecting loggias. These loggias open towards the park. Sliding elements provide variability and semi-transparency, resulting in a distinctive identity contrasting with the hermeticism of the adjacent castle. These features, along with the staggered and loose structure, balance the size and mass of the new building. The spacious inner courtyard, divided by glass bridges, creates diverse relationships between the park and the structure. After the opening of the new building, the Liesing Castle Park will also be made accessible to the public during the daytime.

Quality of Life for Residents

The Liesing Nursing Home consists of 322 beds and offers single and double rooms with covered and barrier-free loggias. 50 beds are reserved for long-term care, and there are two units with 48 beds for people with dementia. The new building includes a rooftop garden and green inner courtyards. Supplementary facilities such as a café, hairdresser, chapel, and a therapy center are provided. The Vienna Social Fund will operate a day center for 50 guests. After the completion of the new building, the old buildings will be demolished and replaced with green areas, and the castle will undergo general renovation.
