Bildungscampus+ Berresgasse

A Bildungscampus+ was built in Berresgasse in Vienna's Donaustadt. The concept is based on the idea of creating stronger connections between kindergarten, school, and active leisure activities. The educational institution consists of a twelve-group kindergarten, a seventeen-class all-day elementary school, and a twelve-class all-day New Middle School. "This means that children from 0 to 14 years old can learn together at one location," says Education Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky enthusiastically.

Covering a total area of 19,300 square meters in the Donaustadt urban development area, a roughly 8,500 square meters open space provides a playground for young children, outdoor classrooms, retreat gardens, therapy garden, water play area, and a beach volleyball court. An additional innovation in the Campus+ model is the so-called district function, which will enable increased involvement of external educational partners in leisure activities and afternoon care. The main focus is on the music schools of the City of Vienna, sports providers, and youth centers. PSLA Architekten/Lilli Pschill Ali Seghatoleslami are responsible as general planners – Vasko+Partner as PPP advisors and executors. Carl Thümecke, project manager on behalf of V+P, explains the particularities: "For us as general consultants, such comprehensive project management means consolidating all forces and managing complex technical, economic, and legal aspects – we take on the client advisory role until compliance with procurement guidelines and the commissioning of the building."

The uniqueness of the Campus+ projects lies in the fact that the scope of services of the PPP contractor includes not only the construction but also the execution planning, financing, and long-term, namely 25-year, operation of the facility.

By 2023, a total of 14 Bildungscampus+ locations will exist in Vienna.
