Expanding Campus Krems

Space for Innovations

Three universities, one campus: The Campus Krems is being expanded. The expansion is being implemented according to plans by Baumschlager Eberle, with Vasko+Partner responsible for construction supervision. Julia Wildfeuer, Managing Director of Baumschlager Eberle Wien GmbH, explains the vision behind the concept: "It is intended to create an attractive learning environment with generous communication areas and bright, friendly communal spaces that provide the best opportunities for teaching and research." In addition to the University of Applied Sciences, the University for Continuing Education Krems and the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences will also rent new teaching, research, and office spaces and benefit from the new buildings.

The centerpiece of the new construction is the large entrance area, extending over three buildings (including a 2-story underground garage with technical and storage areas), which also serves as a connection between the buildings of the individual universities. This shared ground floor strengthens the campus character and includes lecture halls, seminar rooms, and communicative learning zones. The outdoor areas of the new campus section are also generously designed and invite people to linger.

In total, the new building complex comprises four buildings with an area of approximately 28,300 square meters. At the same time, the concept fulfills the various individual wishes and requirements of the three educational institutions. On the ground floor, in addition to a reception and lounge area, three large seminar rooms are available for our classes. Modern laboratory and research rooms for chemistry and life sciences are being created on an area of around 750 square meters. The office concept will be realized as an "Open Space." However, there will also be coaching rooms of different sizes, retreat areas for quiet work, and a spacious kitchen for the staff, complete with its own communication area.

The new construction corresponds to the motto of the campus: implementing innovations directly in the workplace and making change tangible.

The commissioning of the first construction phase (components A, B, and C) is planned for autumn 2023. The second construction phase (component D) is scheduled to be completed by summer 2024.
