Cutting-Edge Research Center in Gugging

The IST, Institute of Science and Technology, is a basic scientific research center located in Gugging near Klosterneuburg. The extensive project, consisting of several parts, commenced construction based on the plans of architects Maurer and Neumann and partners. Vasko+Partner was responsible for project management, services according to the Construction Contract Act (BauKG), as well as warranty processing. The existing central building was revitalized to a low-energy standard and converted into a guesthouse with a seminar center, research office spaces, and gastronomy facilities. The historically protected management building was renovated to be accessible and now serves as the administration center for IST Austria.

To the west of the central building, a lecture hall, the so-called "Lecture Hall," was constructed, and to the east, a multifunctional laboratory building was added. The building's dynamic design blends seamlessly with the surroundings due to its pre-hung greenish glass façade. Only certain parts of the existing structures could be renovated, while those building and facility sections that no longer met future requirements had to be demolished and replaced. This process also included a sustainable facade renovation, along with high-quality thermal refurbishment. The implementation of biogenic energy supply was carried out. The realization of the renovation, extension, and new construction measures was executed in several stages.
